One World…One Dream

Posted on August 18th, 2008

One World. One Dream. Such a beautiful slogan, one of unity and of one direction. But this picture shows otherwise. It actually shows two extremes divided by just a thin line – the fence. Perhaps a more appropriate title would be ‘The Two Sides Of A Coin” or maybe “Irony” would be more dramatic.

This wall perhaps could have just been built before the start of the Beijing Olympics, so as to hide the ugly reality behind it. That government of China is fitted to host such a gigantic event because it has a beautiful country to show to delegates and other visitors that the Olympics will bring in to them.

This scenario is not actually that of China alone, as most countries would definitely put their best foot forward, and cover that which is not pleasing to the eye. The illusion of grandeur and beauty… just like sweeping the dirt under the carpet, to show guests how beautiful and clean one’s house is.

Now then, if only the revenues generated from the left side of the picture will be used to help and alleviate the conditions of those on the right side of it, the ‘One World, One Dream’ slogan would be achieved.
