To battle the effects of the financial turmoil in the US and to fortify its global marketing programs for outsourcing, campaign in the United States and Australia are being prepared as early as 2009 by the Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPAP).

BPAP chief executive officer, Mr. Oscar M. Sanez said, “There will still be growth even the BPO operators may experience a bit of a cooling down, because the investors from rich countries like US, Europe, India. Singapore and Australia continue to do business with us.” Telecommunications, technology, power, retail and utilities are among the current industries that the BPOs are servicing besides it, many industries are still untapped.

A significant part has not been realized. The estimated $130 billion market in 2010, 10-15% of it is only from the banking and financial global market and Philippines wants a 10% share of that global market. Though other countries offer lower rates, Philippines has not been harping on cost benefits but in the quality of its services. The Philippines takes prides of its exemplary, English-speaking BPO workers.

Last year, the National Outsourcing Association (NOA) recognized the Philippines as the Offshoring Destination of the Year. A delegate will be sent by the BPO to represent the Philippines in the upcoming conference of NOA held at United Kingdom this November.

House speaker Prospero C. Nograles expressed his concerns that some of the local industries-dependent on the US market- may be affected by the US crisis.
“We may not feel the effects right away but there are key industries and sectors in the Philippines that are directly linked with the crisis in the US. Our main source of dollar reserve comes from remittances of the OFW in the US and our main source of domestic job placements are business processes outsourcing outfits (BPOs) such as call centers with most clients in the US.”
