What is a Downwinder?

Until today, there have been speculations of the existence of nuclear weapons in the bases here in the Philippines. Debates and investigations have been pursued to prove or disprove this claim, and yet there is still no absolute conclusion whether it is true or not.
Fortunately, there hasn’t been any report of the existence of downwinder here in our country, one of the dangers of having nuclear weapons in our country. Downwinder refers to individuals who have been exposed to radioactive contamination and/or nuclear fallout from atmospheric and/or underground nuclear weapons testing… and worse, nuclear accidents.
But other countries are not as lucky, because they have cases of downwinders. Countries such as United States, Mexico, Nevada, as well as in the Atlantic and the Pacific, where people have been exposed to various nuclear testing before.
