While other world leaders are having a hard time trying to reach to Barack Obama, eight-year old Karina got a response for her letter to the 44th President of the United States.
Fil-Am Karina Encarnacion, a fourth-grader residing in Cedarbrook Lane, Kirkwood, Missouri sent a two-page handwritten letter to the still then candidate Obama in September. In her letter, she told the future president what dog to get his daughters. She suggested Coton de Tulear, a small Bichon-type dog. She said she has one which she called Murphy. She said that this type of dog “do not shed, they are very lovable, small and very soft.â€
Obama was said to have promised his two daughters, Malia, 10 and Sasha, 7, to buy them a dog once they moved in to the White House.
Karina also said told Obama in her letter that he would make a good president and that he will make wise decisions. She also asked the future president to “make a law that requires everyone to recycle†and if it is possible “to ban unnecessary warsâ€
The family was surprised to received a reply last October 30 in which Obama gave Karina some advice, “Look out for other people, even when it does not directly benefit you; strive to make a difference everywhere you go; and get back up every time you are knocked down.â€
The letter which was dated October 20 has Obama thanking the young girl for her kind words, the dog suggestion and her support. Obama also wrote “I am impressed with your interest in politics, especially at your young age. I appreciate your idea to make a law requiring people to recycle and to ban unnecessary wars.â€
Obama also told Karina to “Challenge yourself to make a difference.†And asked her to look for the meaning of the word ‘empathy’ in the dictionary because he believes there’s not enough empathy in the world today, adding that it is up to her generation to change that.
“Seeing young people like you who care about making thing better inspires me and gives me great hope about the future of our country.†Obama added.
The letter came with an autographed picture of Obama which Karina requested.
