Filipino students from public and private colleges and universities once again will have a chance to test their entrepreneurial skills in the HSBC Young Entrepreneurs Awards (YEA) 2008-09. It was just recently launched at the College of St. Benilde Hotel, where student entrepreneurs gathered from all over Metro Manila universities to take part in this year’s competition.
The HSBY-YEA which started in the Philippines in 2003, is a business-plan writing completion for our future entrepreneurs. The program aims to develop the youth’s interest and skills in entrepreneurship, it is considered as one of the most prestigious business plan writing competition in Asia. The competition will run until April 2009.
The competition is supported by a series of seminars and workshops and it is divided into four separate rounds. This will boost the students’ confidence as they acquire more knowledge on writing a good business plan, running a successful company, and even sharpening their presentation skills.
The top three awards – gold, silver and bronze, will be given to the most creative and viable business plans. A special award, the Eco-Business Innovation award, will also be given to the students who will have the most environment-friendly business proposals. At stake for the competition are the prizes amounting to P300,000 for the top prize, P200,000 for the second placer, and P125,000 for the third placer. They will also be receiving a five-day visit to Hong Kong and be invited to join the YEA champions in other countries in Asia.
“We have so much confidence and respect in the Filipino youth. Their vision, creativity and enthusiasm for entrepreneurship continue to inspire us by providing them with even more avenues and opportunities, not only here but internationally, as well,†said Johanna Garcia, HSBC’s vice president for Group Communications.
Gold winners from each country in the region will also be competing against each other in June 2009 for the Best of the Best award. This will be held in Hong Kong wherein the prize will be a business-development fund of HK$100,000 from HSBC.
