The Filipino Stay-at-home and Make Money from Home Father
Posted on December 14th, 2008
Being a stay-at-home father, I sometimes wonder if there are other who are also to be in such a situation – given a choice. I am one because it’s the most logical choice for me in my situation, being a widower who wants to make sure I’ll be always there for my kids.
For families where both parents are working, when a situation arises where one of them needs to give up the job, it is mostly the wife who does. And rightly so, because we live in a society where the father should be the provider for the family’s needs. But what if the wife is earning more than the husband, should she still give up the job just to save her husband’s dignity?

For practical reason, in the above situation, it should be the husband who should give up his job no matter how hard it may be for his ego. This is just one reason why a father chooses, or is forced to, quit his job and stay at home.
This would drastically change the household situation from double-income to single-income. Most often, this decrease in income has an inverse effect on the household expenses like tuition fees, utilities, medical bills and other debts which are really beyond one’s control.
But being a stay-at-home father doesn’t necessarily mean that one cannot earn too. While it may require for doing more brain-crunching exercise to find ways of earning a decent income at home, it is not an impossible task. Depending on his expertise or experience, he can be a consultant for companies who might need his experience.
And of course, let us not forget the internet. In these days where online opportunities abound, the stay-at-home dad need only to be patient in seeking out ways to earn through the internet. There are lots of affiliate opportunities where signing-in is usually free. If he has the knack for writing, the internet also offers lots of writing opportunities from e-zines who accept articles from freelance writers on various subjects. Needless to say of course, he can research about the opportunities that are available to bloggers. But be wary though, because the internet also has lots of scam offerings. Be sure to watch out for them. Ask for feedback, join online forum to get more information.
Just think that being a stay-at-home father actually offers you flexibility with more options available to you as you seek to earn income while at home. The only downside to this is that there are no retirement, no hospitalization and other benefits, and of course no bonuses. However, if you do it right, find your niche and made good – your income can actually more than pay for all the perks you missed by choosing to work at home.
