Gateway Computer Brands in The Philippines
Posted on March 11th, 2009
A new line of notebooks and desktops computers will be coming out of the market in the coming months as US-based computer company Gateway enters the Philippine. Acer Philippines is the one responsible for bringing said company to the country because Gateway is a wholly owned subsidiary of Acer, Inc.
The familiar black and white spotted boxes, in which Gateway is known to use in delivering computers to clients will soon be seen in the Philippine soil. Since the company has been acquired by Acer, Inc. in 2007, it’s only now that the Gateway will have an official presence in the country.
Gateway is banking on the budding local Internet market to drive demand for its products amid the global slump. As said by Dio S. Vasquez, product manager of Acer Philippines, “the Internet penetration in the country is not yet that mature, which presents opportunities for us. Also, there are still many untapped markets outside Metro Manila.â€
Manuel Wong, Acer Philippines General Manager, said he is not worry about Gateway affecting their own sales. While some of the Gateway models are similar to their own branded products, he said they cater to different segments.

Acer would be focused on core technologies which target the tech-savvy market, while Gateway would target the lifestyle-oriented market. Wong said the company has a new team set up dedicated to market and promote the Gateway brand across the Philippines. They will share facilities for after sales support though.
The first line that Gateway will be introducing to the market would be the netbook LT series and UC series, the high-definition MD series and the all-in-one ZX230W.
The netbook lines include the UC7380i, UC7811i and the LT1001i. Model UC73081 is powered by an Intel Dual Core T3400, the UC7811i is packed with an Intel Core 2 Duo T6400, while the LT1001i comes with an Intel Atom N270.
The MD series include two notebooks – the MD260i which is powered by an AMD Turion X2 Ultra Dual-Core ZM-82 processor, and the MD7802i which comes with an Intel Core Duo processor. The notebooks have three gigabytes of RAM and 500 gigabytes of storage.
The all-in-one ZX2300 desktop compute is powered by an AMD Athlon 2650e processor and AMD’s RS690+SB600 chipset, it has a RAM of 1 gigabyte and 160-gigabyte hard drive. The unit has a side-mounted speakers and a keyboard that can be stowed under the monitor.
