Posted on April 11th, 2009
The Congressional Commission on Science and Technology and Engineering (COMSTE) chair Senator Edgardo J. Angara announced that the COMSTE will organize and host an International Renewable Energy Conference (IREC) in Manila this July 2009.
Angara, who is the sponsor of the Philippine Renewable Energy Law said “the Philippines has finally passed the Renewable Energy Bill. Its passage could have not been any sweeter than now when calls are most urgent. We are very delighted to have achieved a significant inroad as our response to this challenge, to win our fight for a Green Revolution.â€
The senator also added the local efforts must be complemented by the fact that the Clean Energy Initiative is a Global Initiative. “In view of this, we must harness each country’s potential and contribution. Philippines, as a country with great renewable energy potential, is a fitting host of this initiative and collaboration,†he said.
In view of this, the country will be hosting, through COMSTE, the International Renewable Energy Conference which is slated on July this year here in Manila. The aim of the conference, according to Angara, who is also the chair of the Senate Committee on Science and Technology, is to find ways to leverage the new Renewable Energy Act, to create a domestic clean energy sector and at the same time, create jobs in this arena.
Delegates who would be participating in the IREC Manila 2009 would be representatives from the academe, industry, investor, entrepreneur, media as well as foreign guests. The senator is hopeful that through this conference, important linkages will be created between countries such as Brazil and Spain. And that it will allow us to work closely with these countries in order to speed up the deployment of clean energy sources in the country.
