Pacquiao wins via knockout in Round 2

Posted on May 2nd, 2009

After a long wait, the fight between Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao and Ricky “Hitman” Hatton was over in just 2 rounds within the bout.

A match that almost didn’t came to be just because of the talk on that fight purse, a match that saw a distracted Pacquiao because of the hullaballoo on the airtime rights.

The road to match was filled with a lot of controversies that saw even the trainers of both fighters getting so much involved in the trash talking and all sort of psychological warfare.

And when the smoke finally clears… it was Manny Pacquiao who was left standing up… tall and proud.

Here’s how it went:

The early start of the match saw Hatton being reminded by the referee.

Hatton goes down twice in the first round, first from a right by Pacquiao and the second from a huge combination as Pacquiao drilled Hatton in about 45 seconds before the first round ends.

But the Hitman has made some connections too, including a jab and a hook to the body. But clearly, the first round belongs to Manny, as he was always connecting – hard right hook, hard straight left, one-two punch… Hatton has stepped into a no-man’s land.

First round ends with Pacquiao having a score of 10 over Hatton’s 7.

An aggressive Hatton came at the start of round 2 as he connects a right early in the round. But Pacquiao wouldn’t be denied and connects with a good combination. Pacquiao is hurting Hatton with those punches. More punches came in Hatton’s way, a three-punch combination saw him wobbling. He now realizes what kind of boxer is the Pacman.

Hatton received another warning as he tried to hold and hit Pacquiao. He was however able to connect with a right which Pacquiao took well.

Then Pacquiao went to work. A combination sends Hatton to the corner, and a left knocks him out.

Eventually the fight was stopped at 2:59 in the round.

Pacquiao reigns supreme over Hatton via knockout.

Congratulations Manny Pacquiao!
