The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) used to be managed by the Department of Finance was administratively transferred under the supervision of Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) by President Arroyo through Executive Order 800 which was signed last May 14 this year due to the problems in the pre-need industry.



Ermita said that, “The pre-need is among those problems that came up and it is being investigated by SEC and therefore, that being the subject matter, being more or less within the purview of the functions of the DTI at this particular moment, the President thought that it would be good to transfer its supervision to the DTI.”
