The Land Transportation Franchise Regulatory Board (LTFRB) is adamant in requiring taxi operators to issue official receipts to their passengers. While the LTFRB is finalizing the details with fleet operators on the actual implementation of automatic receipt-issuing meters on cabs next month, taxi drivers are reminded to temporarily issue manual receipts to customers starting Monday.

LTFRB board member Gerardo Pinili said that commuters may start demanding manual receipts, with BIR (Bureau of Internal Revenue) approval, for every rides in taxis with plate numbers ending in 1 and 6 starting June 1.

Pinili said, “The issuance of receipts (in taxi) would be as ordinary as done in hardware and other business establishments where when you ask for a receipt, they will issue when asked upon but this is only written on paper.”

The public is however advised that they should only accept receipts that have been duly approved by the BIR for the time being, while the transportation regulatory board is ironing out some misunderstandings and addresses the concerns raised by disagreeing taxi operators.

The Philippine National Taxi Operators Association (PNTOA) members warned about a gradual ceasing in operation in Metro Manila if the LTFRB imposed the issuance of electronic receipts in each taxi unit each month. PNTOA is an association of taxi fleet operators.

Bong Sunta, PNTOA president, said that taxi operators are finding it difficult to comply with the new LTFRB policy, which is the compulsory issuance of receipts for every passenger by installing an electronic receipt-issuing meters on their taxi cab units
