Globe Telecom, Inc. is getting aggressive in its bid to capture a bigger share in the broadband market, it is investing in the latest technology to reach 20 millions users by 2012.
Merchi Orlina, head of Globe Telecom’s Consumer Broadband Group said, “Our competitor is three years ahead of us, so we really need a lot of catch-up in the broadband segment.†But Orlina is quick to add that they are the “first in providing lifestyle options for customers through our more personal approach in our services.â€
Globe offers four types of broadband services, which are the traditional wireline Internet service, fixed wireless Internet service, WiMax or Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access, and the Globe “tattoo.â€
They were the first to offer WiMax in the country, which is said to be the fastest broadband service. At present, it is running at 2 megabits per second (mbps) and Orlina said it will improve as soon as the service has been fully implemented.
Orlina added that just a few weeks after introducing it WiMax service, Globe now has 4,000 subscribers for the said service.
The Globe tattoo is aimed at capturing the mobile Internet market, for the people who are always “on the goâ€Â and would always need to be sure to find an internet access wherever they may be. It has a speed of up to 2 mbps and is delivered via 3G and HSDPA or High Speed Downlink Packet Access.
But Orlina said that wireline and wireless fixed internet services still remains to be the best option for entrepreneurs because of its better connection stability and reliability.
The company will also soon deploy its own fiber-to-home technology (FTTH) that would compete with those of Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. and SkyBroadband. The FTTH technology allows simultaneous delivery of voice, video and data services at much higher speeds and larger capacities than DSL or cable technologies.
