The First Mindanao Coconut Summit
Posted on June 15th, 2009
The 1st Mindanao Coconut Summit will be held on June 25 and 26, 2009 at the Honey’s Hotel and Restaurant in Mati, Davao Oriental. The event will gather together coconut farmers and other stakeholders in the coconut industry.
Louie Rabat, Mindanao Business Council Trustee and Conference Director, recently disclosed that 300 participants are expected to grace the first ever staging of the said event. This is aimed to be an annual gathering of Mindanao coconut farmers, buyers, processors, financing institutions, and allied services supporting the industry.
“This is going to be a very significant gathering of all the coconut industry stakeholders of Mindanao. For the longest time, the coconut has been one of the country’s top export winner and Mindanao is a major contributor of this distinction. It’s about time we gather them together to discuss industry problems and opportunities,” Rabat said.
Agriculture Secretary Arthur C. Yap will be the keynote speaker for the said event. The Coconut Industry Investment Fund, represented by its president, Danilo M. Coronacion, will also be making a presentation. Culminating the event will be the formation of a Mindanao Confederation of Coconut Stakeholders.
During the said summit, interesting topics are lined-up to be discussed, such as coconut-based food production, charcoal production using brick kiln technology, cocopeat-based bio-organic fertilizer production and the prospects of using coconut as bio diesel fuel.
Also included in the topics to be discussed is the farm productivity enhancement through intercropping coconuts with abaca and Cavendish banana, as well raising small ruminants.
The said event was organized by the Mindanao Business Council and the Davao Region Coconut Industry Cluster, in partnership with the Philippine Coconut Authority, the Department of Trade and Industry and the Department of Science and Technology. Hosting the event will be the Province of Davao Oriental and the Local Government of Mati.

I think that I grew up and lived in the last house in Ireland to buy a Television. My father held out as long as possible because he thought it might be a bad influence on us and interfere with our homework.
Can someone let me know the result of the business?
Honestly, the Coconut Industry Investment Fund took an even bigger slump under the management of Mr, Danilo Coronacion and his Man Friday-Jabe Cabardo. Millions of money was lost in junket trips, purchase of machines in Spain that can not be used, siphoning of CIIF funds thru Mr. Ed Nicomedez of their France office. What next?????
After Golez who also milk this industry dry together with the help of Coronacion, poor Filipino Coconut Farmers! Suckers for life.
How about the millions of US dollars lost by Oscar Torralba for Cocochem and Tony Eleazar for Minola Refining Company.
Now they are all under the care of Jess Arranza. Companies spinned off from CIIF for their future personal use.
What a life! Pres. Nonoy, please look into these scams. Have pity on the coconut farmers. They are holding on to the biggest industry in the Philippines which is going down the drain.
This over and above your sugar farmers in Luisita.
