Pacquiao in Forbes’ Celebrity 100 list

The Philippine boxing hero and the best Pound for Pound king, Manny Pacquiao is really getting more international recognition. Earlier this year, Pacquiao made it into the Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People.
The People’s Champ was again included in an international list. This time, Pacquiao was named in Forbes 100 list of Most Powerful Celebrities in the world.
Yes, our Pambansang Kamao is ranked number 57 in a list that included great athletes like Michael Jordan (No. 18), Tiger Woods (No. 5), LeBron James (No. 19), Kobe Bryant (No. 10) and David Beckham (No. 28).
The Forbes’ Celebrity 100 ranks actors, models, chefs, athletes, authors and musicians based on a measure of entertainment-related earnings and media visibility, that is exposure in print, television, radio and internet.
Pacquiao is the only Filipino and boxer in the list. He was listed with $40M in earnings and ranked 36th in terms of pay, 55th in web, 59th in press and 80th in TV and radio exposure.
Forbes.com, in its write-up of Pacquiao said “Widely regarded as the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world, Pacquiao had two blockbuster fights in the past year: He took Oscar De La Hoya in December and Ricky Hatton in May. Pac-Ma is a huge celebrity in his home of the Philippines and plans to run for political office there once his days in the ring are over. Counts Nike and beer maker San Miguel among his sponsors.â€
This recognition further strengthens Pacquiao as a powerful personality even the ring. For his influence encompassing sports, Pacquiao has also been named ambassador of peace and understanding by President Arroyo.
Just recently, Pacquiao was also named as Fighter of the Year for 2008 by the Boxing Writers’ Association of America, joining the ranks of Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier, who have received the award twice already.
