The world’s most popular mobile phone browser, Opera Mini users just release its latest State of the Mobile Web report. In the said report, the Philippines consumed more web content on their phones, compared to other countries in Southeast Asia.

The Philippines averaged 705 page views per user compared to Brunei which only has 461 page views per users. Indonesia follows with 420 page views per user.

Opera CEO Jon von Tetzchner said “Searching the Web via mobile device presents an enormous opportunity for both search engines and consumers.”

He added, “Almost all search engines are moving forward to offer relevant and timely information based on location. Yet, consumers prefer services from the search engines they already know and use. As the mobile Web becomes more pervasive and more people have their first experience on the Web from a mobile device, it will be fascination to see how these habit might change. We are certainly only at the beginning of the mobile Web revolution.”

Countries in Southeast Asia who topped the reports of those using Opera Mini are Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Brunei, Singapore, Cambodia and Laos.

The report also said that users of Opera Mini in Vietnam grew by 412.9 percent from May 2008-2009. The Philippines followed with 353.6 percent growth and Malaysia is next with 249.6 percent growth.

As for search engines, Google is still the search engine of choice Opera Mini users in Southeast Asia, with Yahoo! at second place. For social media network, Friendster remains strong in the region, although Facebook has made a significant increase in patronage especially in Indonesia where it is now number one.

For the phone units, Nokia leads in Southeast Asia, followed by Sony Ericsson.

The report which came out last May 2009 said Opera Mini had nearly 25.4 million users, which shows an 8.4 percent increase from April 2009 and a big 136 percent increase when compared to the May 2008 data. The numbers only reflects the Opera Mini users who have specifically chosen to install the browser on their phone.
