MRT, Bus and Jeepney Advertisements

Posted on July 1st, 2009

Advertisements have been proven one of the best ways to market a product, this why advertising rates continue to increase specifically, the mainstream advertising. But for startup ventures, the mainstream advertising is wicked in terms of pricing. However, startup ventures can now compete in terms of advertising with their big time competitors. They have found an alternative advertising model that can reach through wide range of audience in almost all area through transit ads which offer a cheaper price while reaching the same broad audience.

In form of wrap-around posters on the body of any kind of public vehicles, signage on jeepneys’ and taxicabs’ roofs, or liquid crystal displays (LCD) mounted on trains, buses and taxicabs; transit ads or transport ads target the masses who are using public transportations as their way of traveling.

A Metro Manila based company, LG7 Advertising started into the business by September last year. They specialize in transport ads with the anticipation of its growth in demand because of overcrowding of ad placements in the conventional advertising areas.

The chief of operating officer of LG7 Advertising, Filemon Varga, said that transport ad is not only growing her in the Philippines but globally as well. Varga even said that he believed that outdoor advertising billboard will fall because transport ads are cheaper, more dynamic and more effective because it is traveling to different places and can reach more people.

Varga explained that advertiser will need five buses for transport ads compare to three billboards for advertisements. In this case, transport ads will be greater in quantity yet still cost lesser. He said that compared to P135, 000 monthly payment for billboard ads, transport ads would only cost around P20, 000- P40, 000 a month per bus. In a period of six months, a huge difference can be achieved with P900, 000 cost of transport ads compare to P2.4 million for billboard advertisements, yet, with the same target audience and with the chances of more people seeing the bus ad because of its mobility.
