The upcoming documentary on Ninoy Aquino
Posted on August 14th, 2009
I stumbled upon a video in YouTube which is said to be a trailer of the upcoming documentary on the life of Benigno “Ninoy†Aquino, Jr.
Of course, most of us know who Ninoy Aquino was – the youngest Philippine senator, a great opposition leader in the time of President Ferdinand Marcos. He was assassinated at the Manila International Airport (which was later renamed in his honor) when he went home on August 21, 1983.
On August 21, it will be his 26th death anniversary, and the documentary would have been a fitting tribute to the great hero of Philippine freedom, whose death paved the way for his wife, Corazon Aquino to rise to presidency and restore democracy in the country.
I said “most of us know Ninoy†earlier because, unfortunately most of our youth today does not really know him very much, aside from the fact that he is a hero of the Philippines and he appears in the P500 bill. Most of them still don’t realize how much he had done for his country.
The documentary on his life could be a good way for our youth to re-discover who Ninoy really was.
The producer of the documentary film is an American writer, researcher and producer named Tom Coffman, who have researched about the life of Ninoy Aquino – his struggles against Marcos and the Martial Law, how he was as a child and his early years in the politics, until that fateful day when he went home on August 21, 1983.
Unfortunately though, as what he replied to one of the comments in the video on YouTube asking if it would be shown on/or before his death anniversary, he said, “Unfortunately, we probably will not be able to show it on his anniversary. I’ll let you know of any updates.â€
Hopefully, it would be shown at least before the 2010 presidential election, so that the Filipinos could be reminded of the things Ninoy had done for us and why we should participate in the election as we exercise our right to choose the best leader that will lead the country in the years ahead.
Here’s the video trailer of the upcoming documentary on the life of Ninoy.
