In a statement that surprised most people, including his fellow Liberal Party (LP) member, Senator Manuel “Mar” Roxas has sacrificed his presidential dream to give way Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, and endorsed him to be the party’s standard bearer in the coming 2010 election.

In what could be viewed as an extreme sacrifice on his part, Roxas maid the formal announcement at the press conference on historic Club Filipino in Greenhills, San Juan early Tuesday night with Noynoy in attendance. “Today, I am announcing my support for the candidacy of Noynoy Aquino for president in 2010,” said Roxas in a prepared statement he read at the said press conference.

Broadcaster Korina Sanchez, who is engaged to Roxas, was seen crying as the senator made his speech.

It is no secret that Roxas has set his sight on the presidency early on, in fact his infomercials has been running for quite a while. He has already done a lot for his goal, to say the least. He said he made the decision in support of change

The growing clamor for Aquino to seek for the presidency is just too much for Roxas to ignore and called on Aquino to carry on the legacy left by his parents.

In his announcement, Roxas implied that he is willing to become Noynoy’s running mate, which will open up the possibility of unification between the two Liberal Party factions – one led by Roxas as president, and the faction of Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Jose Atienza Jr.

At present, Noynoy has not made any announcement yet whether he would seek for the presidency or not.

Aksyon Demokratiko, the political party established by the late Senator Raul Roco has joined the clamor for Aquino to run for president and endorsed him to be the party’s standard bearer.
