The recent onslaught of typhoon Ondoy has brought immeasurable damage to the Philippines. The storm has left many of countrymen homeless and hungry, and Ondoy didn’t spare anybody as it water engulfs flush villages who weren’t prone to flooding before.
Filipinos have been busy on various social networks – Twitter, Facebook, Multiply and more, updating others and announcing shoutouts for help, pointing to places where help was urgently needed.
This devastation has brought the country once again in the world’s attention and many of those who have seen the effects of typhoon Ondoy really were affected by what happened to the Philippines.
Two ally countries of the Philippines – the United States and China has sent donations to the country to help victims of typhoon Ondoy.
The US, through its US Embassy in the Philippines, has donated $50,000 for the flood victims. Rebecca Thompson of the public affairs office of the US embassy in Manila said Ambassador Kristie Kenney has called Philippine National Red Cross Chairman Senator Richard Gordon to offer the money for immediate disaster relief.
Thompson, who said that the damage brought by the storm “is heartbreaking,†said they were in touch with the officials of the National Disaster Coordinating Council to determine what other assistance the US may offer.
The US donation was coursed through the Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance of US Agency for International Development.
Likewise, the government of China donated $10,000 for the victims of typhoon Ondoy.
Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Liu Jianchao said the donations will be coursed through the Philippine National Red Cross.
The ambassador called PNRC chairman Senator Richard Gordon and told him about the donations, adding that the check will be immediately delivered to the PNRC.
The Chinese government, through its ambassador, also conveyed their sympathy to the Philippines and its people who “were saddened by loss of lives.â€
