On October 22, a job fair will be held at Market! Market! Mall in Taguig, where foreign-owned firms will join the employment expo will be opening their door to Filipinos. Victims of the previous storm Ondoy and typhoon Pepeng will be given priority in the said event.

About 3,000 jobs will be made available at the Joint Foreign Chamber (JFC), and organizers of the event are looking for ways on how they can give easy access to typhoon victims to the two-day event, and to maximize their attendance there in order to help them recover from the impact of the storms.

Foreign Employment Expo 2009 chairman Chris Ward said it is important for those who lost their belongings during the storm to be given an opportunity to again rebuild their lives. Ward is also the vice president of the Australia-New Zealand Chamber of Commerce.

“We were greatly saddened by the tragedy Typhoon Ondoy and Pepeng has brought to the country. It gave the employment expo we will be holding this month a whole new meaning. It is our belief [many] individuals from the typhoon ravaged areas that are qualified to have a career with some of the companies that are participating,” Ward said.

The JFC is planning to set up a separate lane for typhoon victims, or to give them an exclusive two-hour window for each of the two days of the job fair. “Giving them access to the decision makers of companies during the expo is the least we could,” said Ward.

The employment expo will have 50 foreign firms participating in the event, these are from industries like the business process outsourcing (BPO), health care, real estate and telecommunications. Companies will be offering different positions during the expo, from technical jobs to executive functions and they will do on-the-spot hiring.

The said is being organized by the American, Australian-New Zealand, British, Canadian and European chambers of commerce and held in the country since 2007.
