Cooperative Conference scheduled on Oct. 28
Posted on October 18th, 2009
A conference geared to gather all cooperatives in the country is set to be held on October 28. Organized by the Philippine Cooperative Center (PCC), along with various cooperative federations, the said conference will take place at the Makati University.
The cooperative conference is inviting all cooperative leaders, members, and staff, as well as the government agencies, non-government organizations (NGOs) and the academic sector to attend the event entitled “Strategic Direction Towards a Shared Vision.â€
The PCC is looking at the event as an opportunity for the cooperative sector to hear from experts the status of the country in the areas of soci-economics, environment, state of the co-op sector, politics, technology, culture and spirituality.
Speakers will provide analysis from an external point of view on the said topics to give cooperative leaders a different perspective. After which, the delegates would be divided into clusters to discuss the thrust or directions that cooperatives can take, based on the assessments of the speakers.
Neil Santillan, Executive Director of the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA), said the conference is an important event and it has the full support of the CDA. He encourages all co-op unions, federations and primaries to participate in the event which is a rare opportunity to craft a shared vision for all cooperatives in the country. “The conference aims to engage co-ops in strategic thinking process so that they can go beyond their individual concerns and think holistic and long-term,†he added.
Resource persons invited to give talk in the conference include, among others: University of the Philippines Economics professor Cayetano Paderanga who will share his socio-economic analysis; President and CEO of the World Wildlife Fund Jose Ma. Lorenzo Tan will be giving an assessment of the country’s environmental state; CDA Chairperson Lecira Juarez, who will give the state of the cooperatives in the country; and Doctor Melba Magay, President and CEO of the Institute for studies of Asian Church and Culture, who will give her views on the cultural and spiritual situation in the country.
The event’s registration fee is P1,200, inclusive of meals. Interested parties may contact the PCC at 123-73292, 411-2686 and telefax 416-6458. The conference is the culmination of this year’s Cooperative Month celebration with a theme “One Co-op Movement, One Vision, One Nation.â€
