Pacquiao wins against Cotto, makes boxing history
Posted on November 14th, 2009
Manny Pacquiao has definitely remove all doubts and prove once and for all that he is indeed the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, as he dominated the fight against Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto, with the referee stopping the match at 55 seconds in the 12th round of their fight at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Pacquiao took control of the fight in the second round and never let up, knocking Cotto down twice. The first was in Round 3 where Pacman gave Cotto a 1-2-3, and the second time was in Round 4, with 20 seconds left in the round.
For the most of the fight, Cotto was always backpedalling. Kenny Bayles step in at Round 12 to remind Cotto to keep his hands up, when he couldn’t do that he decided to stop the fight. The match ended with Cotto bleeding from cuts near both eyes, as well as his from his nose while his white boxing trunks was stained pink with his own blood.
The win has earned for Pacquiao an unprecedented seventh title in as many weight classes. The whole country is once again celebrating with joy and pride as Pacquiao makes history with victory against Cotto. No boxer has won seven titles in seven weight division, and only five boxers have won six – Pacquiao, Oscar de la Hoya, Thomas Hearns, Hector Camacho, and James Toney.
Pacquiao has won the world championships in the flyweight (112 pounds), super bantamweight (122 lbs), featherweight (126 lbs), super featherweight (130 lbs), lightweight (135 lbs), and light welterweight (140 lbs).
Now, I’m sure that with his latest conquest, the pound-for-pound king is now a marked man that every boxer would want to defeat.
Thank you Pacman for bringing pride once again to the Philippines.
Congratulations Manny Pacquiao – the best pound-for-pound king!
