Hyundai capped 2009 with the launching of all-new Tucson
Posted on December 11th, 2009
Last December 7, the yearend celebration in which Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. (HARI) was a part of, was held at the A. Venue Hall in Makati City. It was an event where HARI capped 2009 with a bang at the 2nd annual Media Noche Choral Festival where three groups from their media partners vied for the top prize.
As Christmas carols filled the air, a new car was unveiled by the end of the night.
The event was opened by Hyundai Motor Company’s SVP, Mr. Chun Young-Kil (via special video appearance), and Ambassador Choi Joong Kyung. In his speech, HARI’s president and chief executive officer, Ms. Fe Perez-Agudo thanked the people behind team HARI, their valued partners in the industry, the media and the motoring public. He said Hyundai exceeded past the 10,000 units sold milestone and landed 4th largest automaker in the world.
The event was made even more exciting by no less than Mr. Pure Energy himself, Gary Valenciano, who delivered his performance – a tribute to and inspired by the late Michael Jackson. During his performance, Gary V pulled the covers off the all-new Tucson.
The new car has two choices of engines: a Theta II 2.4-liter petrol engine (4WD) which churns out 177 ps @ 6,000 rpm, and a maximum torque of 23.1 kg-m @ 4,000 rpm. And a Theta II 2.0-liter petrol engine (2WD) which easily unleashes a maximum power output of 166 ps @ 6,200 rpm, and maximum torque of 20.1 kg-m@ 4,600 rpm. Power moves through either a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic to the front or all four wheels.
The exterior feature shows a flowing and graceful design with a new hexagonal grille, a sexy hood character line, with a “Z” form side character line, reminiscent of a sports coupe. The rear has the sloping tailgate glass meets swooping rear combination lamps and an oversized two-tone rear bumper. 18-inch alloy wheels add an even more athletic touch to its exterior design.
The interiors boast of a full leather seats with eight ways of adjustment. Its second row seats have spit-fold and full flat folding capabilities. It has premium sound system with a 6-CD changer and a built-in auxiliary input or USB port for multimedia capabilities. 4-door speakers, two tweeters and a subwoofer make listening while driving a real pleasure.
The new Tucson also has six airbags, the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Downhill Brake Control (DBC) and Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) as just some of the safety features. Prices for the Tucson variants (except Premium Variant) are as follows: Tucson Theta II 2.0 GL M/T 2WD, P988,000; Tucson Theta II 2.0 GL A/T 2WD, P1,038,000; Tucson Theta II 2.0 GLS A/T 2WD, P1,158,000; Tucson Theta II 2.4 GLS A/T 4WD, P1,458,000.
