A P10,000 loan from a ‘Bumbay’ is what Geronimo and Beth Casas used to start their foodcart fabrication business, with the money they bought their first welding machine . Another P14,000 proceeds from pawning an old car was used to buy supplies. By religiously setting aside P100 a day for payment of the unsecured loan and saving every earning they can get out from their fabrication orders, they were out of debt in less than a year, with lots of promise on their business.

Both senior civil engineering student when they got married, Beth and Geronimo are not really new in the food fad and in the fabrication business. Beth’s family has been baking and selling and ‘hot pandesal’ when she was still young, as her father’s business was fabricating ovens for those who want to sell pandesal.

That is why when they got married and stayed with Beth’s family, they helped in the family business in every way they can. This provided enough exposure for Geronimo which proved to be useful when they decided to start their own business.

A prospective client approached them in 1998 and asked them if they can fabricate a shawarma rotisserie. Geronimo studied and pried on the imported model that was already operating in one of the malls. Beth, all while was seated in a nearby corner, drawing the machine and its various features. When they got home, the husband and wife team combined their observations and fabricated their first shawarma rotisserie. In less than a month, it was already operational, and soon orders flowed in.

Customers’ loyalty however wouldn’t be achieved if it weren’t for the couple’s quality of work and customer service. G.N.C. (Geronimo’s initials) has made it a point to attend to every customer’s concern even if their people to travel far north. And they don’t sacrifice quality for sake of having a lower price.

Beth’s simple advice for all those who want to start their business was “Tiyaga at tipid” (perseverance and thrift), which are two of her greatest assets.

Professionally, more two years passed since he focused on Feng Shui. Some may think that one with this kind of expertise is alreadyexperiencing a rich lifestyle (especially with the fees others offer) but he’d yet to realize that for he has made a solemn oath that until the current cycle ends, he will assist those who require his skills and services to the best of his abilities.

Maybe it is also for the challenge that I sought those who are seriously distressed. Well, whatever could have been the reason it made it easy for me to troubleshoot even unusual situations – exorcisms and such are an exception, of course. And that experience in helping our less fortunate Filipino brothers and sisters made me stronger in fighting subjects which one can never learn from books alone. Most of his knowledge about Feng Shui stems from what his late father. As an entrepreneur, his father applied principles of Feng Shui and succeed in the field he played. Richard’s father also learned a few more from his acquaintances. But as a kid back then, Richard really didn’t pay attention to much. It was only later when he set out on his own that he realized it is indeed a big help. Thus, when books and reference persons could no longer satisfy his thirst on this, he sets out to get as much experience as he could. Another reason why he set on this path was his inability to bend to the whims of those mulcting applicants for new businesses.

Must be the Metal Dog in me. I’m quite selective on whom I help and I complement my methods to what the person I’m helping and on what he could understand and do (and of course what he can only afford). Whenever I’m asked with regards to how much I would demand for my services (usually this is the first question they ask) I first do a quick evaluation then if I deem the person worthy I offer an income-based pricing (as in what he can only afford). Did a lot of pro-bono work too (usually these are the heavy stuff and really drains one almost totally). Rarely do I find those that I have to ask my full fee. Can’t really recall how many I have helped but it should already be over a hundred (and even more if you would include those I just give general advice). If there are any big names in my list that I’ve helped I’m not talking as I gave my word that all notes and records will be kept confidential (and as my clunky computer gave up the ghost some files got sent to the twilight zone already). If I did any international stuff, just a few and I usually do it over the computer and/or phone – pro-bono work too as I just asked in return that they do some good to others.

Problems that he encountered in this sort of business are differences in religion (those that don’t accept other ideas but only the “approved” ones), unreliable scheduling (since he just often walk to the site or the meeting area) which is quite frustrating especially if it occurs repetitively.

I don’t trust anyone else but myself to get my automobile back to a running form. I depend much on my good pair of shoes and feet to take me to my destination. No prima donna requests and supernatural problems as much as possible. The latter being the hardest as have to dive even deeper beyond Feng Shui to find the solution. This is why you’d often hear me comment on trust and faith in God. -CityHunter

Too lazy to get back to fixing his car or doing chores at home, he gets to find time to relax either by immersing in some action games on the PC or a nice skirmish with his fellow weekend warriors often called “war gaming.” For him, it is not only an active sport but also hones his mind to quick decisions and teamwork as he gets himself fit by returning to doing his Wushu routine. And despite of this regular habit, he still gets to be a bit lazy to wake up very early just to do those things. Having no kids yet, he has no other pastime beyond those activities besides playing with his pets.

One of his future plans is to offer seminars on Feng Shui (as he doesn’t want to be tied up to an office yet) and start his alternative healing services.

And his message to our fellow Filipino Entrepreneurs:

Information is the key to succeed in life. Books and teachers can provide much information but it can never match real-life experiences. So humble yourself and learn to be observant and a good listener. Be open to suggestions and opinions from others and always take notes. A good and wise entrepreneur always has a pen and paper handy.

Absorb the wisdom and factor that to your decisions. Forget not too to show respect in dealing all kinds of people and always deal with them as your long lost friend, for first impressions lasts. And when the situation seems beyond hope, maintain a positive attitude and remember that God exist, f or he is indeed always with us and is just waiting for us to seek his help. That is the difference of getting to have free will. If you reap much in your endeavors forget not too to share your blessings with those who are less fortunate.”
