Chery Automobile Ltd. announced it will build a manufacturing facility in the Philippines which will be the company’s left hand drive manufacturing hub in the Southeast Asia. Chery Philippines sales marketing manager Raymond Tribdino said the manufacturing facility will be constructed in the next three years. He said, aside from serving the local market, the company also plans to sell Philippine made vehicles to the ASEAN market. They plan to build Philippine specific models for both passenger cars and small vehicles.

“We will have a local partner. We will subcontract. We are in the trial phase and we are working out the shares in the company. We are not sure how much the total investment will be, but normally, one line costs more than $10 million,” Tribdino explained.

He also added that they would like to bring in cheaper electric vehicles to the Philippines and ASEAN market, “For electric cars, we would like to introduce the first commercially available electric vehicle.” Tribdino said the lithium ion battery is 60 percent of the price. The Chery full electric vehicle is estimated to be at P1.8 million but it could be more. For a single charge, it can run up to 250 kilometers.

Chery Philippines is asking the government to grant them incentives like a parking lot with charging station, lower registration rate and zero percent import duty from China. The current import duty is 30 percent. If the said tariff is removed or is the same as AFTA at one percent, Tribdino said the small e-vehicle will be cheaper at P1.057 million. Although the vehicle is over P1 million, he said the running cost is low with the high cost of fuels.

Tribdino also said they are looking to beef up their local sales as Chery China took over from old distributors Easy Way Motors. The company bought Easy Way’s assets worth P150 million. He said they are looking at matching their 2010 sales target last year which was 1068 units. Their 2010 sales stood at 1,134 units.

SkyCable allotted P1.5 billion funds for its capital expenditure for 2011 for its Cable Television (CATV) business. Half of the said amount will be used for the roll-out of its digital TV service nationwide and the other half for boosting its broadband subscriber growth, according to company marketing head Rodrigo Montinola.

A subsidiary of network giant ABS-CBN Corp., SkyCable has approximately half a million subscribers as of last year, most of which are from Metro Manila. Almost 85 percent of cable users in Metro Manila are already using digibox, which is essential in viewing digital television programs. The CATV firms hopes to increase that number to 95 percent by the end of the year.

SkyCable is also intensifying its marketing effort to increase the number of its broadband subscribers. “We had flat growth from 2006 to 2009. We started growing again only last year, where we had 35,000 subscribers,” Montinola said. “Our target is to grow our broadband subscribers significantly by about 70,000 by the end of this year,” he added.

Montinola also announced the availability of the DigiBox iRecord, a personal video recorder (PVR) set, a top box capable of simultaneously recording two TV programs while the subscriber watches a third. The box has a 320-GB drive that can store up to 145 hours of standard definition video or 85 hours of high-definition (HD) video. This is equivalent to over 70 movie titles, over 100 episodes of one-hour TV shows, or over 80 documentaries of National Geographic HD. The device also allows for slow-motion and frame-by-frame playback of recorded shows.

The company is optimistic that the new service would lure in at least 3,000 users in the first year of rollout. They are eyeing medium to heavy TV users, as well as busy working people who can’t always catch up on the schedules of free or cable TV. Existing subscribers in Metro Manila can get the DigiBox iRecord for a refundable deposit of P4,999 plus P399 service fee of using the Digibox iRecord on top of their monthly CATV fee.

After a long while, the PBA team owners will finally meet again on January 25 to discuss some major concerns hounding the Philippine’s premiere basketball league, among those matters to be discuss is the next television station that’ll be granted the rights to televise the games. Likewise, the board will also tackle the league’s participation in the national and the proposed PBA coliseum when they convene in a meeting at Club Filipino in Greenhills.

Principals of the Philippine Basketball League (PBA) are among the giants in the Philippine business sector. Smart-PLDT chairman Manny V. Pangilinan, San Miguel Corporation president Ramon Ang, Alaska Milk owner Wilfred Steven Uytengsu, Rain or Shine co-owners Raymund Yu and Terry Que, and Barako Bull’s George Chua have all confirmed attendance in the meeting.

PBA commissioner Chito Salud said on the upcoming meeting, “I see it as an affirmation of their strong interest and concern to see to it that the PBA goes to the next level in living up to expectation of fans. This is a positive message of their commitment to make the PBA more attractive and more accessible to broader and younger fans base.”

He added that the meeting was set on common move by the Commissioner’s Office and the team owners to eventually resolve lingering concerns and issues. “Specific resolutions have to be made. I think they are interested in resolving these issues now to set directions how the leave will move forward,” Salud said.

On the on-and-off PBA coliseum plan, he said, “It’s been on the table for a long time. It has to be resolved. Do we pigeonhole it? Or do we go through with it?” But the most important of the meeting, Salud hinted, is the TV contract. “The matter of who will cover the PBA is crucial and vital because they will be the marketing partner of the PBA. The front office is tasked to improve the product which is the game, then we need to have a good marketing partner,” he said.

A Philippine delegation, headed by the Department of Tourism (DoT), will be flying to India, particularly in New Delhi and Mumbai, to conduct a sales presentation in time for the production of tour packages for the April-June Indian travel season. The DoT is looking to capture a bigger market share of the 15 million outbound tourists from India.

Secretary Alberto Lim of the DoT said that the on-going sales mission will serve as the department’s major drive to showcase Manila and Cebu as ideal destinations for Indian tourists.

Benito Bengzon, Jr., Assistant Secretary for International Tourism Promotions, said “With more than fifty percent increase on target arrivals from India, the mission will ensure that the Philippines will be in the 2011 tour offerings.” While DoT Marketing Team India head Raymund Glen Agustin said, “The program involves meetings with the presidents and CEO’s of top Indian tour wholesalers, one-on-one business meetings between Indian tour operators and their Philippine counterparts, as well as presentation updates on connectivity and entry requirements to the Philippines.”

In the first week of December, a group of 254 top producers of Nerolac Paints in India for their four-day incentive tour. The group personally chooses Philippines for their incentive. They visited Manila, Tagaytay, and Pagsanjan for some sight-seeing, casino gamin, night-life entertainment and shopping activities.

Agustin said the group was the largest incentive group which came from India this year. He said the tour was made possible by the Cutting Edge, an Indian-based tour operator, and its local counterpart Shroff International Travel Care. He added that the arrival of such huge group was the direct result of the department’s marketing and promotional efforts for the Indian Market.

“Cutting Edge participated in the DoT initiated familiarization tour for Indian travel agents last year and has committed to send next year incentive groups covering more than a thousand individuals on a staggered basis,” Agustin said.

For his part, Secretary Lim said aside from the incentive groups, industry partners from India, through their local counterparts, will be sending more tourists to the Philippines. And this will be made more possible with the resumption of the Philippine Airline’s MLA-New Delhi flights in March next year.

A total 108 delegates from wholesale travel agents from all over the world are coming to the Philippines for the upcoming 10th Philippine Travel Exchange (Phitex 2010) to forge deals with the different sectors of the local tourism industry.

Tourism Secretary Alberto A. Lim said that the delegates who will be coming in are large representations from outbound travel wholesales in China, Korea, Japan, Asia Pacific, North America, India, the Middle East and Europe. He said the Phitex 2010 is geared towards bringing in big volume of tourists from around the world.

“They will do business with 194 local sellers of tour packages, thus generating volumes of foreign visitors over the short and long term,” the tourism secretary said.

Phitex 2010 will be held on September 2 this year, at the Fiesta Pavilion of the Manila Hotel. The event is an industry-based and government-supported marketing initiative that aims to link foreign wholesale buyers and local sellers of tourism products and services in a full day of one-on-one business meetings, with each delegate being accorded a number of pre-scheduled appointments for table-top discussions.

Undersecretary for Tourism Planning and Promotions (TPP) Vicente R. Romano III said this will effectively make the foreign wholesalers themselves to “push the Philippine tourism brand in their respective countries through OTC (over-the-counter) or POS (point-of-sale) promotion and other agency-driven consumer marketing schemes.”

“At the same time, their participation in Phitex 2010 will guide the members of the local tourism industry in conducting product development based on market-specific demands, or the actual requirement of their target foreign clients,” he added. This will help local industry players to learn more about the present and future global market opportunities that they could take advantage of.

“All in all, Phitex 2010 will boost and guide our efforts in focusing on infrastructure and product development since this event covers both ends (supply and demand) of the market spectrum,” the undersecretary said.

The theme of this year’s Phitex is “Awesome Philippines, Awesome Sceneries, Awesome Activities, Awesome Experiences.” The event will be officially opened by Secretary Lim who will speak on the strategic direction of the country’s tourism development for the duration of his term.

To welcome the participants for this year’s Phitex, a welcome dinner will be held in celebration of “A Decade of AWESOME Phitex Experience,” which will be jointly hosted by the Department of Tourism and Hyatt Hotel and Casino Manila.

Nido Petroleum Ltd. sold its first oil from the Tindalo oil field off Palawan. The Australian firm has sold to a buyer in South Korea some 230,000 barrels for crude oil cargo. Joanne Williams, Nido deputy managing director, said the sale was confirmed by the joint venture’s marketing agent, Trafigura Pte Ltd., with the lifting expected in the second half of September.

“An advance on the proceeds from 173,655 barrels of crude oil from the first sale was received on August 19. These barrels will remain stored aboard the floating storage and offtake (FSO) vessel until the lifting,” Williams said.

The Tindalo oil well is producing approximately 1,535 barrels of oil a day. Williams said that the Service Contract 54 A, which covers the said oil well, has also approved the Tindalo-1 well intervention and remediation program.

We are on the second half of the year. Are you ready with your business promotional products? Before you know it, Christmas is already here. So better make sure that you have already ordered your giveaways for the holidays, if you have not ordered them yet. With your promotional products, you can get to reach more people at a cheaper price than using the tri-media – television, radio and prints.

The most common giveaways that can get you more exposure are pens, baseball caps, t-shirts, promotional bags, fans and other small items. If you have a bigger budget for you promotion and marketing funds, you may opt for the gadgets like USB stick or flashdrive, MP3 Player, and other small gadgets. This maybe good especially for corporate clients. You do not want to look cheap on them, right?

And like I said before, have your promotional giveaways printed in a design that is not exclusive for the holidays. That way, you can order in bulk, which will allow you to get a lower price per piece because of the volume, and at the same time, you can still use them all throughout the year in promoting your business.

So get your promotional items ready this early.

As I have mentioned in a previous post, it is never too early to prepare for Christmas. This early, it is better to scout around for promotional products that you can used as giveaways for the coming holiday season. The advantage of getting your promotional items early, is that you have the luxury of time to scout around for the better deal, you can get them cheaper since they are not rushed orders, and you are assured that you will have them delivered to you before Christmas. You do not need to worry about delays, as what usually happened when during peak season when are already too many orders.

You can choose to give away promotional mugs, t-shirts, ballpens, planners and diaries, calendars and more. People would appreciate and remember you better if you are giving functional items for promotional giveaways. Because they will always see your company name and logo everytime they use the giveaways.

But remember, promotional marketing marketing materials are not just good for the holidays. They are effective all year-round. That is why it would be wise to have them printed in a “non-seasonal” design, so you can use them during product launching, anniversaries, or prizes everytime you have a company promotion. Have them in stock, because you never know when you might need them.

Many businesses today are realizing the importance of having a website for greater exposure of their company, products, and services. That is why many entrepreneurs, big or small, are making sure that they have online exposure. But before you keep that site up and running, be sure to get a professional to make your web design for you. Because the design of your virtual office could make or break your attempt in maximizing the power of the Internet.

By getting a professional to do your web page design, it is already one step towards your success in the virtual commerce. But do not just get a web designer, you should WORK with your web page designer. While he may be an expert in his craft, you are still the master of your enterprise and you know the company’s strong points, best products, and your advantage over your competitors.

For example, he may suggest to make a flash website design for your page, you can suggest which products, services, or informational should be highlighted by the design. It will be good if your web designer has background in marketing, he can be of great help as he would suggest how to best present you enterprise.

You may also try searching the Internet for the best web design and study how they present their company. If you can find one in the same industry or product and service category that you have, it will be better. Try to see their strong points, find out the weak points.

Manulife is expecting its business in the Philippines to grow in 2010 by 30 to 40 percent. The Canadian insurer is basing its projection in terms of premiums and beat industry’s growth forecast.

The said projection was feasible, according to president and chief executive officer of Manulife Philippines Indren Naidoo, saying that they are stepping up their marketing campaign to take advantage of the improving economic conditions. He added that the expected increase in incomes this year would make insurance more affordable.

Manulife is one of the oldest insurers operating in the country, being in the Philippines for more than 100 years already. Included in the marketing strategies the company plan to undertake this year is “to further maximize its bancassurance business with China Banking Corp.”

“Rising product demand and both agency and bancassurance distribution channel development have helped Manulife Philippines gain momentum early this year,” said Naidoo during a press conference last Monday.

According to him, bancassurance currently accounts for 20 percent of the insurance company’s sales. The company targets to increase the share to 30 percent over the short medium term. Manulife also plans to include in its marketing strategies the maximization of direct selling of insurance, as it offer more products, expand its branches to more provinces in the country.

The 30 to 40 percent growth forecast of Manulife for its own premiums, is in fact, much bullish that the expected 15 percent rise in premium collection by the entire industry. In the first quarter of 2010, premium collection by Manulife grew by 78 percent year-on-year partly due to growth in sales through bancassurance.

The company generated P3.6 billion premiums in 2009.

Outsource2Philippines (O2P), a firm that provides advisory services to the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry was reported to be acquired by TeamAsia, an award-winning strategic marketing communications firm which is based in the Philippines.

TeamAsia managing director Michael Alan Hamlin said on their acquisition, “We’ve identified a number of exciting opportunities for O2P that we will describe more fully in the coming months.” And he continued, “The outsourcing industry is evolving rapidly, and as it does the kinds of support services it requires are likewise changing. The industry is learning to outsource business processes that are not within its core process expertise. That’s where we see tremendous opportunity for O2P.”

Frank Holz, a veteran in the outsourcing industry with his many years as a partner of Andersen Consulting (now known as Accenture), founded Outsource2Philippines in 2004. With the acquisition of TeamAsia, he will remain with O2_ as a consultant. With expertise and experience, he will be assisting BPO companies as they deal with issues associated with rapid growth.

O2P collaborated with the Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPA/P) to conduct quarterly surveys of the BPO industry which resulted in highly-reputed periodic CEO briefings. Hamlin said that they will continue working with BPA/P to assess industry sentiments and provide a forum for regularly discussing industry developments. “Feedback from the industry as well as high level of participation in these activities indicates that industry executives appreciate the insights the CEO briefings provide,” he said.

The company also worked with the Philippine Software Industry Association (PSA) to develop an industry roadmap (“Fly High 2010”).

Meanwhile, BPA/P Executive Director for Research Gillian Joyce G. Virata commented, “We value the relationship with O2P and look forward to continuing our collaboration. Of course, we also work closely with TeamAsia on a number of key initiatives – such as the International Outsourcing Summit – and they have also sponsored and produced our quarterly briefings. We anticipate a seamless transition.”

The acquisition is expected to be complete in 30 to 60 days, said Hamlin of TeamAsia.

The power of the internet is one medium that many entrepreneurs has not really explored yet. While many would readily acknowledge its potential, many are still afraid to try, for various reasons, one of them being the cost. But compared to traditional advertising, online advertising is relatively cheaper, produces better results even.

That is what I learned from different online pages reporting outrank.com reviews of the benefits that they get from online advertising.

If you have not heard of outrank.com yet, they are an online company who manages the online advertising of many small business and are committed to producing results for their clients. The many testimonies on their website could not lie.

And they cater to small businesses and start-up entrepreneurs, because they believe that small businesses should have the same opportunity to reach a wider market, as much as the big businesses and conglomerates do.

Based on some outrank.com reviews that I have read, and the testimonies on their main websites so far, it seems that outrank does deliver and helps small business achieve a better bottom line figure in their financial statements.

Many of their satisfied clients even say that they have tried other online advertising networks before, but so far outrank has delivered it for them. ProfitFuel, which is the business name of outrank, keeps its commitment of bringing a “greener” bottom figure to their clients by effectively promoting their websites, even landing on the top page of the web searches, guaranteeing them that they will be soon… which almost always converts into sales.

Just to show you some of the testimonies, here’s one from the site that reads:

“I have tried every online marketing vehicle you can think of … none of them compare to ProfitFuel. I knew I was on to something when an investor from California called me off of my ad a few days after signing up! Thanks for the great work.”

- K. L. from Texas

Of course, I cannot really post all the testimonies. Check out the website of ProfitFuel and see how it can help your fuel your profit.

The Terminator will visit the Philippines next year, but he won’t be here to promote nor shoot any film. Instead, the California Governor will be leading a group of US business delegation who will visit the country in February as part of the government’s marketing efforts to expand the market of Philippine exports and industries.

The announcement was made by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) who said that Schwarzenegger will be tagging along about 150 to 200 businessmen from San Francisco to discuss possible partnership deals with local industries. The main agenda of the delegation here would be green-energy technology.

The San Francisco delegation would be the first of a series of inbound business-matching sessions to be hosted by the Philippines next year for foreign trade and investment missions, according to DTI’s Bureau of Export Trade Promotion (BETP).

Aside from the Schwarzenegger-led delegates from San Francisco, visitors from Canada will also be flying in next year to discuss possible partnership with local firms. They would be looking on companies in the fields of education, medical tourism, import/export, banking and finance, and information technology (IT).

Likewise, delegates from Seattle and Silicon Valley would also come here for IT, Taiwan for diagnostic, Northern China for coco oil, and Portland for food products.

Meanwhile, local exporters would be brought by the government to about 20 countries next year too, for a similar pre-arranged business-matching sessions with foreign buyers.

The DTI said, “For 2010, BETP intends to conduct 23 Outbound Business Matchings (OBMs) to cover processed food, auto parts, fine jewelry, furniture houseware, wellness services, construction services, content for film and television, natural and organic products, and personal care products.”

Among the scheduled destination countries for Filipino exporters are Macau for processed food/marine products, India for snack food, Korea for marine products and natural and organic products, China for furniture, and Malaysia for Halal food.

Interested exporters who want to participate in these business-matching programs next year may contact BETP through (02)890-1200.

An internet is a very viable tool for every entrepreneur today. I couldn’t imagine an enterprise succeeding without internet. It’s not impossible I know, but it might not be as quick. And just like a reception on your TV, your internet connection should be clear and fast, for the entrepreneur not to miss any opportunity.

And most Internet Service Provider (ISP) today uses the wire or cable facilities, which are very much affected by the elements – rains, floods, lightnings, etc. Sometimes, these could not even provide a clear internet service, or at least be consistent in giving one.

I was able to chat with a friend the other day, and he was boasting of his clear chicago internet. He said it was fast and reliable that he is able to accomplish his online marketing at half the time, enabling him to spend more time in online social media.

My friend uses the services of a wireless ISP, which is a satellite internet. It is not affected even if there are rains and floods – no wires hits by lightning, or drowned in floods. I am reminded of my intermittent internet connection, especially when there is a bad weather.

Maybe I should follow my friend’s lead and start looking for wireless service provider here. I have already miss one opportunity too many because of my unreliable internet connection.

We all know that these days, a website is not only essential but almost a requirement for every entrepreneur to have one. And once your site is up, the entrepreneur must do some serious online marketing stuff to promote it. One way to do this is through blog marketing, where a business takes advantage of the dynamic feature of a blog.

Because they are almost, always updated, blogs can easily climb up on search research pages. This is one reason why blog marketing services have become popular these days.

Some business ask for independent blog reviews where their site, product, or the whole enterprise is featured. The author would then express his unbiased opinion – the pros and cons, the benefits as well as “areas of improvement” of the website and/or business.

Now, finding the right blog to hire isn’t always easy for the enterprise, especially if they don’t really know a lot of quality blogs. To solve this, they look for companies who find the right blog for them – matching their business with blog niche, such as technology, business, cars, home, fashion, and more. This creates a win-win situation, both for the business and the blog.

So the next time you think about promoting your online business, consider blog promotion as one of your option.

These are two of the most important aspects of an organization – marketing and human resource. They deal with the company’s customers, one for the external and the other, the internal.

Companies really spend a lot of money (and effort) just to be able to come up with an effective marketing presentation to show its prospective clients. The presentation can make or break the company.

That’s why emphasis should be given to the planning stage of the presentation – who are your audience? how many minutes were you allotted? the personality of the crowd you’re going to show the presentation to? Gather all these useful information, and more, to help you prepare an effective presentation that will capture your target audience.

Equally important, as I mentioned earlier are the internal customers. These are the company employees – the backbone of the organization. That is why human resource people really need to put an effort to in coming up with with an hr presentation that will keep the members of the organization motivated.

Starting with the presentations shown on new employees orientation program (to help newcomers grasp the culture of the company), to changes and improvements for the company.

To help you come up with great presentations, visit HR and Marketing Ideas at www.marketinghrdpresentation.com for some tips.

Coffee farming industry in the Philippines is getting a big boost as Figaro Coffee Systems Inc., a Filipino-owned coffee chain, is encouraging the revival of coffee farming in the country’s mountain areas. Figaro Coffee said that more players in the coffee industry are now sourcing their coffee bean supply requirement from local coffee growers, many of which are located in the uplands.

Johanna Clavecilla, Figaro’s Marketing Services Manager, said that all of the products being served in their 70 outlets nationwide, except for the decaffeinated drinks, are using coffee beans bought from local coffee growers.

Figaro Coffee Systems, through its corporate social responsibility arm Figaro Foundation, is also contemplating on the production of organic gourmet coffee in the Philippines. The company said it could only be realized if the country’ coffee farming business is revitalized.

Clavecilla revealed that their company is set to pioneer the selling of organic coffee products in the country. She said that their company-initiated study indicates that there is growing consumer demand for organic beverage products in the country as well as overseas. It may take a while though to make available the organic coffee products, but Clavecilla said Figaro is working closely on this with a German-based consultancy agency.

She also said that at present, there are only a few coffee farms in the country who are working on organically produced coffee beans, majority of which export their products. She added that they have been thinking about the concept of an organic coffee less than five years ago, however, they are still making studies if there is a market for such product.

She also mentioned about the process of getting international accreditation which means preparing for a mountain of documentary work and huge investment. She assured though that when organic coffee is made commercially available in the country, Figaro will the first coffee chain in the Philippines to offer such product.
